The
Vinho Verde from Portugal, a wine unique in the
world, is a good reason to start exploring the Minho
region.
The Vinho Verde, a light and slightly sparkling
wine, goes well with fish and seafood. It also
tastes great as a refreshing drink on a hot summer
day. In the Atlantic part of the Minho, in the hilly
northern part of the country, grape vines grow along
the espalier. Along the edges of the fields you will
find the typical grain sheds. Several granite built
houses and monuments, which are open for public, are
scattered in the green landscape with various rivers
running through it.
You
will surely enjoy the road that leads you to
Guimarães. This city is part of the World Heritage
List and is also called ‘the cradle of Portugal’.
Continue your trip to Amarante, a pretty town on the
riverside with many historic sights. Do not leave
without having visited one of the most evocative
vineyards of the region. They’re not only renowned
for their beautiful houses and estates, but of
course, for the quality of their wines as well.
